Fly Away With Me: An Editorial Open House at The Glasshouse at River Oaks
The light at The Glasshouse at River Oaks does something most venues can't fake. It moves through the room all evening, catching glass, skin, and champagne in a way that makes everyone look like they belong in a painting. On June 17, that was the point.
Fly Away with Me brought together Kansas City planners, venue partners, and soon-to-be-engaged couples for an evening built around possibility: what a wedding day could look like, feel like, become. Lumen Events Kansas City was there to answer that question the way we always do, by giving guests something to hold onto.
Our setup was simple by design. A draped backdrop, soft and editorial, gave guests a moment of pause before they stepped in. What awaited them after wasn't a typical printout. We featured two AI-enhanced overlays, a watercolor and a pencil rendering, transforming each photo into something that looked hand-rendered rather than snapped. Guests watched their image shift in real time from photograph to keepsake, and the reaction was consistent all night: a pause, a smile, then a request to do it again with someone else.
That reaction is the whole thesis of Lumen. A photo booth can capture a face. An experience captures a feeling, and it sends people home with proof they had one. Throughout the evening, guests lingered by the drapes comparing prints, planners stopped to ask how the technology worked, and more than one couple talked through what this kind of moment would mean, built into their own day at their own venue.
The Glasshouse at River Oaks gave us a beautiful stage for it. Floor-to-ceiling glass, clean architectural lines, and a flow between indoor and outdoor spaces that let the evening breathe, all shaped by Fête Fully's planning and design eye. Blush and Blossoms filled the room with florals that softened every hard architectural edge, while Supply Event's rentals and draping provided our own backdrop, and the lounge areas styled by Yours Truly Event Rentals offered the kind of intentional polish guests could sink into. BBJ La Tavola and Shinneman & Co layered linens that carried the editorial feel down to the tabletop, and Branded by B's stationery and graphics tied the whole visual story together from the welcome sign to the place card.
The evening engaged every sense. Olive Events catered, Lucille's Landing kept the bar moving, and Bonita Cafe's coffee bar gave guests a reason to linger even longer. Taylor Elizabeth Cakes and Kyndra Jade's wings rounded out a spread built for grazing and conversation. Patrick Lentz Entertainment's live trio and soloist Kaydee Gabs filled the room with music while Laura Dancing in KC kept the energy moving, and guests could step away from the dance floor to watch artist Ruby Underwood paint live portraits or admire the painted wine bottle and stage decal work from Humble Hands SJG. Mimi's Bridal, The Posh KC, and Todd's Clothiers brought the styled looks that anchored the evening's editorial shots, captured throughout by Ashley Ice.
It was a room full of Kansas City's best, each vendor bringing their own craft to the same evening, and Lumen's watercolor and pencil overlays were one more layer in a night built entirely from intention. By the end of it, what guests carried out wasn't just a print. It was a clear sense of what their own celebration could feel like with this kind of collaboration behind it, an evening they could already picture from across town. That's the difference between renting equipment and creating a moment someone remembers reaching for.
